I have this bad habit to not leave a makeup/ skincare store without purchasing an item. I can say I have a weak control power when it comes to anything about beauty. If I were not able to go to the mall, I end up making online purchases instead. And then one day, I just realized that I need to limit my spending habits. I found other beauty junkies across the globe who do this 30 day no buy challenge and I felt like this is what I need to do for myself, like a rehab or something.
And I’m so proud to say that this day that I’m drafting this post, I have successfully made my way through the challenge. As in Php0.00 spent in makeup and skincare in one freaking month. I feel like I have to share my journey and how I succeeded this challenge. Here are some tips for those who are planning to do the same challenge in the future:
1. Go through your collection.
I used to feel like my stash was never enough and I always find a reason to get something new. I know most makeup junkies can exactly relate to this. Going through my collection is the first step I did because I need to check all the items I currently have. Little did I know, I have some items that are still untouched or I just only used 2-3 times. I also realized that I still have a long list of items pending to get reviewed here in my blog. Suddenly, the thought of splurging again makes no sense because it will only add up to the stuff I haven’t even tried yet.
2. Disable Bank transfer option on your Bank account, Hide your card, Never access Paypal.
Online shopping is my best stress reliever. Paying online is just so easy. A few clicks and you are done. What I did is I stay away from all payment options I use. It is a little hard because I also need to pay other personal bills and utilities, but all I need is a little self-control and I was able to get pass that part.
3. Divert your attention.
I can actually spend my whole night browsing through instagram makeup shops and I figured that it makes me more tempted to make a purchase. Instead, I spent my nights reading more books or watching movies. I keep myself from opening my phone unless necessary.
4. No walking on the makeup aisle.
Pretty self explanatory.
5. Gift yourself after.
Are you familiar with the concept of Delaying Gratification? I applied that in this challenge. I told myself that I will reward myself with something I have been writing on my wishlist as a reward for not making impulsive purchases. I got myself the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette at the end of the challenge.
For me, no challenge is ever difficult if you are really determined to finish your goal. It seems hard for me at first, but I was able to get over the things I initially thought I can’t.
